Lees-McRae Summer Theatre announces its 2016 season

June 01, 2016

Lees-McRae Summer Theatre is excited to announce the 2016 Summer Theatre schedule. The 31st season, which includes Mary Poppins, Always… Patsy Cline and The Pajama Game, is packed with family-friendly comedy, laughs and good memories.

Productions get underway with Mary Poppins, which runs from June 26-July 3. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Always... Patsy Cline runs from July 14-20 and is based on the true story of Patsy Cline's friendship with Houston, Texas housewife Louise Seger. Patsy pays a surprise visit to Seger and, as they talk, Patsy floats in and out of Seger’s kitchen to reenact her great moments on the stage. And of course, she will sing – Anytime, Walkin’ After Midnight, She’s Got you, Sweet Dreams and the iconic Crazy.

To wrap up the season, The Pajama Game will run from August 2-7. A union strike at a pajama factory generates plenty of steam heat in this toe-tapping comedic love story. Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful, as sparks fly between new superintendent Sid Sorokin and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7½ cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well.

Lees-McRae Summer Theatre is committed to producing quality theatre experiences. The company, including professionals and students training in their craft, serves the high country community as collaborators for the betterment of our area.
