Looking for something to do on Valentine’s Day? Come out to Lees-McRae for The Vagina Monologues! On Friday, February 14, Lees-McRae will host The Vagina Monologues at 7 p.m. in Evans Auditorium in the Cannon Student Center. This performance contains mature subject matter and is open to the public. Donations of at least one dollar are required and proceeds will benefit OASIS of Avery County. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

On Monday, January 13, six members of the Lees-McRae Enactus Team, along with Enactus advisor Amy Taylor and faculty member Joe Walsh, traveled to S & D Coffee in Concord, North Carolina. The day included a tour of the facilities as well as a presentation on the production and development of its products.

Other than being known for the place where current Unaka High School head coach Aaron Dugger stood out in the mid-2000s, Lees-McRae basketball has basically been irrelevant since making the move to NCAA Division II in the mid-1990s.

In December 2013, AffordableCollegesOnline.org analyzed online degree programs from more than 2,000 accredited colleges and universities across the nation. Lees-McRae ranked no. 6 out of 30 for affordability in North Carolina with a list including top institutions such as Duke University, East Carolina University, Campbell University and many others.

Beat the winter blues by coming out to enjoy the Stephenson Center for Appalachia’s Lecture Series at Lees-McRae College. The lectures begin on Thursday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. in Evans Auditorium with an illustrated talk by Dr. Scott Huffard, "The 1891 Wreck at Bostian’s Bridge and the Haunted History of the Western North Carolina Railroad," and run through the middle of April. A variety of programs, scholars, poets, novelists and natural historians will pour the light of their work onto the gloom of winter. All Stephenson Center lectures are free and open to the public.

The Lees-McRae cycling team finished third in the Division I Collegiate Cyclocross National Championship, while tallying 192 points. Senior Kerry Werner claimed his second consecutive individual title over the weekend on the men's side in Boulder, Colo.

Becky Alghrary-McRee ’63, former Banner Elk Resident and Lees-McRae alumna, will hold a book signing for her new book, From the Catawba to the Tigris at Lees-McRae College on Friday, Jan. 17. The book, McRee’s fifth, recounts her many unforgettable adventures in the years she spent traveling to and from, and living in Iraq in the 1970s and 80s.

Kerry Werner (Banner Elk, N.C./Lees-McRae College) successfully defending his title as the Division I men's national champion after he completed his six-lap race in 47:26. Werner, who won this national title for third time today, turned five of his six laps in under eight minutes.

In January 2014, Lees-McRae College named Chris Parker as Director of Sports Information. Parker was most recently the Assistant Sports Information Director at Brevard College, a member of the South Atlantic Conference and a fellow NCAA Division II institution.
