Performing Arts presents Almost, Maine on the Hayes Auditorium stage November 18-21

Almost, Maine will delight the audiences at Lees-McRae College, opening November 18, with laughter, heartbreak, and hope. Almost Maine is not a show to be missed.

Dr. Michael Hannah directs this play written by John Cariani. On a Friday night in deepest winter, the residents of the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine (so far north it's almost in Canada) are falling in and out of love in unexpected, unusual, and often hilarious ways. As the northern lights hover magically overhead, knees are getting bruised, and hearts are getting broken. But the bruises heal and hearts mend - almost - in this delightful romantic comedy.

"I chose Almost, Maine because it offers a challenge to the actors, and as an educational experience I hope they grow as performers through this process. But the play is also appealing as a simple, enchanting evening of love lost and love found," said Director Michael Hannah. "I hope it will be a nice way to pass an early winter evening in Banner Elk. And if it snows again during the production, so much the better."

"Each of these scenes shows real people dealing with real situations, I think that audience members will be able to find moments to which they can relate," said Dr. Hannah. "The romantic moments are very real and sometimes more than a little bittersweet, but in each scene we see people dealing with many different emotions, some very pleasant and surprising, and some somewhat painful. But that's love in a nutshell. You have to see both the good and the bad effects of love to feel fully human."

Dr. Hannah is supported by costume designer Mindi Bishop, set designer Danielle Baisden Curtis, and Jason Pickering as sound designer.
