Lees-McRae College Campus Life and the Student Government Association will host a mini Relay for Life on April 15 from 6 p.m. to midnight in Evans Auditorium in the Cannon Student Center.
Students were inspired to create teams for Relay for Life. The nineteen participating teams represent a variety of organizations from including, Student Government, Outdoor Programs, Paws (Campus Programming), Greek Life and academic divisions.
"This is my first year working with Relay for Life and it has truly been a pleasure. I am still amazed at how helpful, energetic, and hard working our student leaders are at Lees-McRae College," said Justin Kitts, director of campus life and recreation. "I am looking forward to the event so that we can showcase their efforts and bring awareness to campus and the community."
During the evening there will be several activities in which to participate. In particular, there will be a surf simulator, airbrush tattoos, wax hands, funny tees and candle art. Teams will also provide additional entertainment like a dunking booth, video game tournaments, food and much more.
Lees-McRae College participates in Relay for Life because it is a life-changing event, one that gives everyone in the community a chance to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, to fight against cancer and to find a cure.
At Relay, teams will be walking for awareness, and running booths to raise even more money for cancer research. All proceeds from Relay for Life support the American Cancer Society for cancer research.
