Kathryn “Kitty” Lee has more energy and enthusiasm than most people half her age. She comes back to campus every summer for the annual ESCAPE (formerly Frolic) event and her love for the College is evident the moment you meet her.
Her favorite memories from campus are of spending time with friends. Whether she was ice skating or sledding, playing tennis or picnicking on Tate Lawn, she loved to be outside with her friends.
Kitty attributes a lot of her success to Lees-McRae College as well. She said she learned a lot from her professors, like Ms. Margaret Tufts O’Neal. The skills she learned in her classes are things she used every day in her career as a medical librarian.
When asked whether she felt it was important to give back to LMC her answer was immediate. “I have always given. Any amount is important. You have to keep up the buildings; you have to pay it forward for others.”
Her advice for current LMC students? “Study more! I did not know how to study for exams until I got to Lees-McRae. Also, get more involved in sports, be active.”
Kitty currently lives in Scotts Hill, NC with her son and daughter-in-law and their three dogs. She also has a daughter, three grandchildren and will welcome her first great-grandchild this October.
