In December 2013, Lees-McRae College named Boderick “Bo” Bennett as Vice President of Extended Campus and Online Learning. Bennett was most recently the program coordinator for Human Services at Lees-McRae as well as an adjunct professor for the criminal justice program. He will begin his duties on January 6, 2014.
“It is a very special honor to be chosen as the Vice President of Extended Campus and Online Learning,” said Bennett. “Lees-McRae College is an inspiring and beautiful institution, with a firm foundation. I believe we are poised to be a leader in the offering of quality education through extended campuses and online. I look forward to this new endeavor and our future.”
Bennett has an extensive educational background having received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from South University and his Master of Arts in Psychology from University of the Rockies, and is pursuing his Ph.D. in Human Services from Walden University in Minn. A perfect parlay into overseeing online learning, much of Bennett's education was completed through distance education programs, helping him to be well versed in the practice of virtual learning.
In addition to a strong educational background, Bennett spent nearly ten years as a security forces supervisor for the United States Air Force where he was honored with numerous commendations and awards for outstanding leadership, general management and field operations. Bennett also spent time with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Asheville, N.C. and the Department of Public Safety in Morganton, N.C.
As of spring 2014, Lees-McRae will offer two online learning programs, RN to BSN and Criminal Justice, with another program, Human Services, proposed to begin in fall 2014. Both RN to BSN and Criminal Justice are both also offered in a seated format through Lees-McRae's extended campuses.
“We are thrilled that Bo will be continuing as part of the Lees-McRae family in an expanded capacity,” said President Barry Buxton. “With his past experience, we know that he is the right choice to lead Lees-McRae into the future of extended campus and online learning.”
As the Vice President of Extended Campus and Online Learning, Bennett will join the President's Cabinet, and work to develop and implement a strategic vision for Extended Campus and Online Learning in addition to managing day-to-day activities of the department. Among other duties, he will also oversee Regional Coordinators and staff of all satellite campus locations including Mayland Community College, Surry Community College and Western Piedmont Community College.
