Communication Arts

Communication Arts students in the Photography studio at Lees-McRae College

Essentially our program is based upon the convergence of media. Unlike other programs we do not separate components into different majors. Our students start with a strong foundation in writing, art, digital design, and film and video. From there they build upon these to tools and combine them with practical experience to achieve their goal in their chosen field.

The structure of the major is divided into 4 main areas: writing, film and video, art and design, and digital media. Students within the major take several courses from each of the area until their last semesters. These areas converge into in depth courses focusing on digital media with the purpose of refining knowledge and skills preparing students for post graduation experiences.

Mission

The Communication Arts Program provides students with a strong theoretical grounding in communication, fine art, design, and digital media, which is supported by both breadth and depth of knowledge and practical experiences with the various tools of the contemporary communications industry in order to prepare students for post graduation experiences. The program has four main focus areas: writing, film and video, art and design, and digital media.
