About the Sport Administration Program at Lees-McRae College
The Sport Administration program is designed for those students with a career interest in athletic administration, coaching, personal training, sports media and business. The primary goals of this program are to develop an in-depth knowledge of managerial planning, organization and administration, evaluated within the context of a sport organization, and develop competent leaders who desire to continue their study in a graduate program focusing on sport administration.
The Sport Administration program also offers students the opportunity to obtain certification in the coaching field. Students will take SPT 331: Theories of Coaching Intercollegiate Athletics. Once they have completed the course, they will take a National Certification Test to become certified in the particular coaching field of interest (i.e. basketball, baseball, track and field, volleyball, etc.)
With 19 competitive sports teams and over 300 Bobcat athletes, Lees-McRae provides an excellent training ground for students interested in Sport Administration. This program combines specialized coursework with real-world experiences, preparing students for a variety of management positions within the sport industry. Field experiences include trips to the Bristol Speedway and internship experiences are emphasized with athletic teams on campus and in the professional industry. Students choose between two areas of concentration: Sport Media and Communication and Sport Business Administration.
