The School of the World brings together learning and fun to create an exciting environment for all students. Each week you can choose between digital photography, surfing, or yoga as a side activity. However, each student must take a Spanish class related to his or her knowledge of the language. These work and play activities meet daily which makes it impossible not to gain knowledge of the desired class type, and of the Spanish language.
The Spanish language courses at The School of the World offer a relaxed environment to students. While required for all those who attend the school, it is in no way your average class. The instructors allow you to go at your own pace to maximize your understanding of Spanish and to make learning fun. Speaking of fun, each day your Spanish class does an hour long lab, where you go to different places around Jaco to learn more about the Costa Rican culture and to practice your Spanish. Such places include the local bakery, the market, fruit stands, and restaurants. Overall, it is an experience that is far from boring!
The digital photography class is chosen by students who desire to know more about the logistics of taking a photograph, including the influence of light, contrast, etc. Each student walks out at the end of the week knowing how to take the best photographs of this beautiful country, that will last forever. One advantage to taking this course is that the class travels to a variety of beautiful locations in and around Jaco to take photographs.
Surfing is taught by local, experienced surfers who have fantastic teaching abilities for those with little to no experience surfing. From the basics to advanced techniques, by the end of the week you will be riding the waves of the surfing capital of the world!
Yoga is both relaxing and challenging. You are literally stretching muscles you rarely use and improving your coordination and your well-being. The instructors work with each student individually and as a group for the maximum yoga experience. It is guaranteed you will walk out of each class feeling better, relaxed, and perhaps a little sore!
