Secretary to the President

Lees-McRae College invites applications for a full-time position as Secretary to the President.  This position is responsible for the original contact of visitors and callers to the President’s office.  Duties include maintaining and scheduling office visits, the President’s calendar, and all clerical work of the President’s office.  Qualifications include at least two years clerical experience, preferably in higher education; excellent verbal and written skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to interpret instructions and solve practical problems; strong computer and technology applications skills; and ability to multitask.

Director of the Counseling Center

Lees-McRae College seeks a part-time Director of the Counseling Center to provide counseling services to students.  The successful candidate will be an experienced professional who is passionate about the health and well-being of students, capable of assuming a leadership role in ongoing campus efforts to promote health and wellness, reduce high-risk behaviors among students, and strengthen campus crisis intervention and emergency response.

The Director is responsible for the leadership of the Counseling Center including providing individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, consultation, outreach programs and prevention strategies.  In addition, the Director will supervise counseling interns and be responsible for budgeting, planning, and policy development.  The Director works collaboratively with other units within the Division of Student Development.

The successful candidate must possess a master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or social work.  Licensure in the State of North Carolina (or license eligible) by the State Board of Psychology or North Carolina Counselor, Social Worker, and Family Therapist Board (LPCC-S required).  Three years experience at a college counseling center or comparable professional setting is required.

Qualifications include experience in a college/university counseling center and demonstrated strong collaborative skills with other Student Development departments, especially Residence Life and the Dean of Students. Experience with a diverse college population, as well as valuing inclusiveness in a campus community are required.  Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.  The Director must be able to support the mission of the College and its values.  The position is part-time, ten month, and the salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Accounting/Finance Adjunct Faculty Position 

 

Position:  The Business Administration Program at Lees-McRae College, Banner Elk, North Carolina, is seeking to fill an adjunct faculty position of Accounting/Finance. 

 

Qualifications:   Potential candidates must possess a Master’s (required).  Candidates with a CPA and/or CFE with a Master’s (preferred), or Ph.D./D.B.A. (preferred) degree in the field of Business with emphasis in Accounting and/or Finance.   Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach courses in the following areas:  accounting, forensic accounting, taxation, auditing, financial, investment and international management.  Other responsibilities include, advising of students, service, and scholarship.  Preference is given to candidates with business work experience in accounting and/or finance with a CPA and/or CFE.  Appropriate rank based on qualifications.  Deadline for submission is December 1, 2011.

Adjunct Instructor-Nursing

This position is responsible for instruction of seated and online classes in the RN to BSN Program and the creation and implementation of an online version of courses within the curriculum. This position reports to the Director of the RN to BSN Program. This position has the potential to become full-time based upon expansion of Lees-McRae College’s Extended Campus BSN program.

 

Key Responsibilities

Online Program Development:

·         Translates existing coursework for RN to BSN classes into an online format

·         Works with LMC IT Services to ensure that all courses are accessible and functional in an online format

·         Communicates with students regarding  issues and requirements for completing online classes

·         Acts as liaison between students and LMC IT staff

·         Assists other Instructors in the RN to BSN Program in developing online teaching competencies

 

Instructional Function:

·         Provides instruction for both seated and online classes as assigned by the Director of the RN to BSN Completion Program.

 

Advising Function:

·         Assists the Director of the RN to BSN Program in coordinating with the Director of Extended Campus and Registrar’s Office each semester to register extended campus students in appropriate courses

·         Assists students in understanding requirements for graduation from program

·         Returns calls and emails from students in a timely manner

·         Assists students in accessing  and utilizing WebAdvisor, NCLIVE and Sakai 

 

Reporting Function:

·         Reports student grades within the prescribed time and format

 

Key Requirements:

  • Masters or doctoral degree in nursing.
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina or in the Nurse Licensure Compact with multistate practice privileges

Security Officer (Part-Time Positions)

 

Lees-McRae College seeks applicants for multiple positions of Part-Time Security Officer.  These positions strive to maintain a safe and secure environment for the students, employees, and visitors of the College through systematic monitoring of the campus grounds and buildings.  Major duties include:  Patrolling, checking for fire and safety hazards, performing traffic duty including issuing parking citations, assisting in evacuation of buildings, investigating unusual activities and preparing reports and logs as required.  Qualifications include:  Security and/or law enforcement experience, high school diploma, good criminal background, valid NC driver’s license, computer skills, ability to tactfully enforce rules and regulations. Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC is accepting applications for multiple adjunct positions. Adjunct faculties are hired to provide quality learning experiences to traditional students as well as adult learners, depending on the program for which candidates are hired.  

Positions Available: Adjunct faculties are needed for the following disciplines: 

·         Business – Management and Accounting

·         Development Education

·         Foreign Language: French and Chinese

·         Humanities: General Arts and Humanities courses, Literature (American and British)

·         Performing Arts: Acting, Voice and appreciation courses (Theater & Performing Arts); Dance; Costume Designer/Builder

General Responsibilities: The categories listed below constitute the expectations for the adjunct faculty member. These responsibilities will be assessed utilizing student evaluations, classroom observations by the supervisor, and the supervisor’s formative and summative evaluations. Specifically, the adjunct will 

1.     Participate in an orientation program provided by the College and/or division.

2.     Develop course syllabi according to the standards provided;

3.     Distribute and review the course syllabus in the first week of classes.

4.     Utilize current pedagogical methods that foster active and engaged learning;

5.     Remain abreast of standards and ongoing developments and practices in the assigned    

 academic program or department;

Remain abreast of developments and practices his/her professional content area(s);

6.    Follow the course or academic program standards as prescribed by the area to which he/she is assigned;

7.    Acquire materials and supplies to deliver quality instruction, and

8.    Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of mid-term and final grades. 

Skills Required: Course and syllabi development, current pedagogical knowledge and practices, MS Office, cooperative and active learning strategies, writing for learning, communication skill (verbal, written and interpersonal), and problem-solving.

Minimum Degree: Ph.D. in specified field preferred. Master’s degree in specified field considered with a minimal of 18 graduate credit hours in each area taught. Educational background and work experience which meets the standards of the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges and Lees-McRae College required.
