Bobcat Softball has Season Opener on Saturday

Bobcat Softball opens up its season Saturday, February 3rd at the Claflin University Tournament. The first game is at 9 a.m. against Claflin in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Despite finishing sixth in regular season and fifth in the conference tournament last year, the Bobcats were picked tenth in the CVAC Coaches Poll earlier this week. Players picked by the CVAC Coaches as players to watch are returning middle infielders Dakota Beck and Sallé Horner.

Short stop Dakota Beck led the conference with a .395 batting average as a freshman last year and fellow freshman and second baseman Sallé Horner solidified her freshman experience by being selected team captain for the upcoming year.

The ladies return a near complete infield and outfield, yet graduated their all-conference hurler Hannah Morgan; captain, Greta Turner; and outfield leader, Talia Freeman.  They will be looking to the abilities of their recruiting class – four pitchers, two catchers and a junior college transfer first baseman – to balance out their attack.
The ladies also welcome the return of Ashlyn Birmingham who recently completed over a year’s worth of chemotherapy and radiation earlier this month. Ashlyn led the team in batting average her freshman and sophomore years and was granted a medical red-shirt last year. The Bobcats are forever changed by her resilience and determination to win and overcome the battles of life.
