Would you like to read more books for pleasure but have a difficult time picking out a book you might enjoy? Or are you an active reader but want to know what everyone else on campus is reading? No matter the case, the Bobcat Bookcase is here for you.
Now everyone on campus can log on and access the Bobcat Bookcase, which is designed to allow the Lees-McRae College community to share and discuss the books that they have read.
On the website, you will be able to review, rank and rate books, which automatically generates your own “Top Books List” and the “Bobcat Bookcase Top Lists.” Ratings and rankings of books are averaged across all users of the site, enabling you to see what other people are reading, and what are the more (or less) popular books.
The Bobcat Bookcase allows you to both review and discuss books. Each person can review a book only once, but anyone can discuss and add as many comments as they wish about any book on the site.
The idea for the Bobcat Bookcase originated from a comment that Dean Tom Balistrieri made during an opening workshop in the fall that only 6% of the entire population read a book last year.
“Our two fold purpose with the bookcase is to survey the Lees-McRae community and find out what students and staff are reading and to encourage everyone through the reviews and discussions to pick up a good book (or two or three) and read it,” said Russell Taylor, Director of Libraries. “I am constantly amazed at students and staff who tell me they don’t read for pleasure, so we are trying to encourage leisure reading with the Bobcat Bookcase.”
A display can be found in the library featuring books that people select via the Bookcase. Everyone is encouraged to come by and check out a good book. The Bobcat Bookcase is available at www.library.lmc.edu/bb.
