Dr. Lawrence D. Hopkins ’70 was elected the newest member of the Lees-McRae College Board of Trustees at the January meeting.
Hopkins is a prominent surgeon in the Winston-Salem area, and is currently an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Tommy Brigham ’72, chair of the College’s Board of Trustees said, “We are thrilled to have Dr. Hopkins on our Board of Trustees and look forward to him providing dynamic leadership as we shape the exciting future of Lees-McRae College.”
A former Bobcat football player and member of the College’s Board of Visitors, Hopkins attended Lees-McRae College from 1968 to 1970, then graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University in 1972 and from Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University in 1977. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Virginia.
After serving in the United States Air Force from 1981 to 1983, Dr. Hopkins operated a private practice in Winston-Salem from 1983 to 1996. He practiced medicine at Aegis Family Health Centers in Winston-Salem from 1996 until 2005, before joining the faculty of Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
He and wife, Beth, reside in Winston-Salem.
