Orientation Leaders

Each year a select group of students are carefully chosen to serve as Orientation Leaders for Lees-McRae College. These orientation leaders serve as guides for freshman and transfer students who are transitioning into becoming a Lees-McRae Bobcat. This dedicated group of students assist with implementing orientation programs and weeks of welcome during the summer, fall and spring sessions.

Orientation Leader Requirements

  • Maintain a minimum 2.25 cumulative GPA.
  • Be in good academic and judicial standing with the College during the application process and throughout tenure.
  • Ability to think critically, problem solve, manage conflict, remain flexible under pressure and work under varying levels of supervision.
  • Willingness to work long hours behind the scenes to prepare for and ensure the success of our orientation programs.
  • Exhibit a commitment to the College’s mission, strong customer service and interpersonal skills, a passion for helping others as well as the ability to work with diverse populations.

Housing and Uniform

Orientation leaders will be assigned to live in a residence hall on campus during both summer orientation sessions. Leaders are required to reside in their given summer assignment during nights when orientation students are in residence.

Housing costs are covered by the Student Development Office during the summer sessions. If special accommodations need to be made (i.e. arrive early/leave late, disability housing, etc.), please notify the Director of Campus Life and Student Engagement upon acceptance of offer or immediately upon knowledge of needs.
Leader will reside in their standard housing assignment during the fall and spring sessions.

Orientation leaders must adhere to the established uniform guidelines for each session. Some pieces of the Lees-McRae orientation leader uniform will be provided to each leader free of charge, other pieces may need to be provided by the leader. Each leader is responsible for maintaining this uniform throughout their tenure.

Absences and Tardiness

During all scheduled orientation sessions, all leaders are required to be on time and available for the entire scheduled time. Tardiness, unexcused absences, or policy violations by an orientation leader will not be tolerated and may result in termination.
