Safe Space

What is it?
Safe Space is a program designed to
promote unity and respect on campus and respect of all people regardless
of age, gender, race, ethnicity, cultural or personal differences.
What does the SAFE SPACE sticker mean?
By displaying the Safe Space sticker, a person is
saying the she/he is personally committed to accepting and appreciating
ALL people regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation,
religion, age or ability.
Furthermore, this person will make a conscious
effort to work toward a community free from prejudice which promotes
respect for everyone.
Displaying the sticker does not mean you know
everything or have "all the answers." It does not mean you are a
counselor to people. However, it does acknowledge that you value
people for who they are, that you respect differences and that you
foster a safe environment where people can be themselves.
Why is it important?
The Safe Space symbol is an outward sign of an
inward commitment to make safe spaces in our community readily
identifiable to those who seek to be understood, accepted and valued for
who they are. In a society torn by conflict, violence and
discrimination, programs like Safe Space are more important than ever
before. Safe Space is a bridge toward a future free from prejudice
and characterized by respect for all.
Where do I display the emblem?
Display the emblem where it will be visible and
meaningful to others. A Safe Space sticker will adhere to any
surface.
Where do I get a sticker?
You can get a sticker from the McRae House.
