Interns on Grandfather Mountain

Looking for something to do over the summer to gain a better understanding of the many different facets of theatre?  The Lees-McRae Summer Theatre Internship Program may be right for you!  Both of our sessions run for 17-18 days - you'll be living in dormitory housing with the cast and crew.  Special activities will be planned to get you off campus (see some listed below), you'll spend days assisting with a multitude of areas involved in performing arts and perform or serve in a tech position for one of our main stage productions.  Read on to find out more!


Application Requirements...

  • Applicant must be 16 upon arrival to campus.  The Internship is available for those 16-21

  • Applicant must provide three reference letters (send to address listed below, or via email) from non-family members.  References must be made to your communication skills, talents, character, work ethics and support  of your abilities to work in the areas of performance, management and/or technical theatre.

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher - please send copies of High school transcripts.

  • One-page resume highlighting your performing arts and theatre experience

  • A neatly completed application form (click here to download in pdf. form) 


A Typical Session...

Though schedules may be altered upon the interns arrival to accommodate needs, requests and desired opportunities, you may click here for a sample schedule of what a basic layout for a session may look.


Summer 2008 Available Sessions...

Session I (June18 - July 6)- During this session interns will, if desired perform in the first scene of A Chorus Line and work back stage in areas such as spot light operator, dresser, and/or set crew. Interns will also assist with the Creative and Performing Arts Camp (CAPA) that is held each summer on Lees-McRae College campus, assisting with creating performances and workshops for K-8 students. Field trips, special classes, rehearsals, and work in technical areas will round out the interns stay on campus.

Session II (July 21 - August 8) - During this session students will work as a chorus member or technician for OKLAHOMA! Field trips, special classes, rehearsals, and work in technical areas will round out the interns stay on campus.


The Cost...

  • Housing is available for no cost

  • Three meals each day are available in the college cafeteria for an additional cost  of $340.00

  • Internship Fee - $300.00

  • Interns will be paid $50.00 at the end of their session (this ensures that the intern is covered by workers compensation incase of an injury).


Deadlines...

Positions will be filled through rolling enrollment until all positions are filled. Please feel free to inquire about possible openings.
