Welcome to the Philosophy Minor Website

The ProgramThe Minor in Philosophy develops students’ abilities to read, think, write, and speak critically about issues of value, based on the idea that Philosophy is not primarily a specific field of study but a methodology for understanding and evaluating the foundational principles and controversies within any particular discipline.  This program thus supplements a Major in almost any field because it emphasizes skills that translate well from discipline to discipline.  Studies have shown that students who major in Philosophy perform better on the GRE, LSAT, and GMAT than majors in almost any other discipline, and this is because PlaceholderPhilosophy trains students how to think, not what to think.  Just as importantly, the skill set developed in Philosophy prepares students for their Placeholderresponsibilities as citizens in a democracy.
