Campus Programs

In the Fall of 2005, the Chaplain's office of
Lees-McRae College invited four Tibetan Monks, members of the Sera Jey Monastery
of Southern India, to live and share with our community.
Their visit sparked the beginning of the Global Community Center and an
ongoing series of programs, which has developed into our annual “Global
Community Week.” In the Fall of
2006 Arun Gandhi, grandson of the late Mahatma Gandhi, inaugurated the Global
Community Center and was the keynote speaker for our second Global Community
Week, called Pathways to Peace. In
September of 2007 the Global Community Center succeeded in holding its third
annual Global Community Series with Keynote Speaker
Kerry Kennedy (daughter of
the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy), an international human rights activist with
Amnesty International.
