Alumnus of the Month: Mary Biehner ’13

October 17, 2014

As the leaves start changing and the weather turns cooler, the words “snow days” start to form in the minds of current students. This can be said for alumni as well. When we asked Mary Biehner ’13 her favorite memory from her time at Lees-McRae snow days were at the top of her list.  She also added being able to “walk across the stage at graduation and not fall down, and having all my family and friends stand up and cheer for me.”

Mary contributes much of her current success to her time at Lees-McRae. “I would not have made it this far if my teachers in and out of the [Athletic Training] program weren’t there to help push me through my 8 a.m. classes, and help me and encourage me to find the self-confidence I need in myself and my profession to succeed.”

What advice does she have for our current students? “Don’t take [your time here] for granted. Enjoy your college years because they don’t last forever! Be nice to your teachers because they look out for you when you show them you care! And you never know who you might use as a reference.”

Being a recent graduate she feels like many that she does not have much to give back. “But if I could it would be so Lees-McRae could grow and expand!”

Mary is currently in Wilmington, N.C. working as the Team Athletic Trainer for the Wilmington Hammerheads FC, which is a professional men’s soccer team in the USL PRO division. She is looking to make the jump to MLS in the future, trying to stay as close to the action as possible!
