Lees-McRae College is proud to announce a record enrollment of 87 students in the Honors Program. These academically-gifted, highly-motivated students boast an impressive average GPA of 3.763 for seniors, 3.722 for juniors and 3.690 for sophomores.

“As of today, the overall average GPA for honors students [seniors, juniors and sophomores] is 3.725,” said Dr. Ken Craig, director of the honors program. “These are impressive numbers and these are impressive students.”

Of the 87 students, 27 are freshmen and not included in these totals.

The Honors Program at Lees-McRae is designed to provide a challenging and supportive learning environment for these exceptional students. Select campus housing is designated for honors students, and everyone in the program is given unique leadership opportunities on campus. Special lectures, colloquia, service projects and field trips round out the honors experience.

Each year, Lees-McRae hosts a Scholar's Day for prospective Honors Program students who show a high level of dedication to academics and leadership. Through essays and interviews, these students compete for two full-tuition Elizabeth McRae Scholarships and one full-tuition Shelton Scholars Award (offered every four years). If selected for one of these scholarships, the students must be active in the Honors Program and maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout their time at Lees-McRae.
