Lees-McRae College Athletics set to resume practices at Ferrum College and Queens University of Charlotte
Due to the devastating effects Hurricane Helene caused to the Lees-McRae College campus, including to the Fred I. Dickerson Athletic Complex, President Lee King and Director of Athletics and Club Sports Marty Favret announce a partnership with Ferrum College and Queens University of Charlotte to house the college’s fall athletics teams on their campuses.
In addition to the student-athletes, Ferrum and Queens have generously agreed to house each team’s coach and assistant coach, and athletic training staff at each institution. These Bobcats will live and practice at these institutions' facilities, and this partnership gives the teams the ability to continue competing in their sport at the collegiate level.
“This partnership is the first step of many that the college is taking toward helping students get back on their feet and return to some degree of normalcy following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene,” King said. “The students, faculty, staff, and administration of Lees-McRae College are resilient, and with the support of our local, state, and Conference Carolinas community, we will be an even stronger institution going forward.”
The Lees-McRae soccer program, cross country program, and men's basketball team will be hosted by Ferrum in Ferrum, Virginia. The tennis program, women's volleyball team, and women's basketball team will reside on the campus of Queens in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“On behalf of our student-athletes and coaches, I want to offer a heartfelt thank you to Queens University, Ferrum College, and Commissioner of Conference Carolinas Chris Colvin. During challenging times champions come to the forefront, and these two institutions have emerged this fall at our time of need. We are eternally grateful!”
The Bobcats will resume practice on the campuses of Ferrum and Queens on Monday, Oct. 7.The best way to support Bobcat Athletics in these efforts is through donations to the Bobcat Club.
