Truist Leadership Initiative Funding Opportunities

Are you looking to host an event on campus that will promote experiential learning surrounding leadership?  Are you hoping to take your class to an event to meet leaders in your industry?  Are you interested in attending a leadership conference?  Are you hoping to attend a conference in your field that will provide you with skills to become a better Lees-McRae Leader?  The Lees-McRae Truist Leadership Initiative is the place that can support your academically-centered, experiential learning leadership development.

Industry Leader Networking

Leader networking focuses on direct experience and interaction with industry leaders. Examples can include but are not limited to:

  • Hosting a networking event, speaker series, conference, or workshop on campus that brings leaders to campus
  • Take a class or group to an event or program that will provide leadership networking opportunities for the Lees-McRae community

Industry leader networking funding can be applied for at any time. This is a rolling admission.

Personal/Professional Leadership Development

Personal/professional leadership development focuses on advancing leadership skills that can benefit the individual as well as Lees-McRae College as a whole. Examples can include but are not limited to:

  • Attending a conference, workshop, training, or certification in your specific industry or career field
  • Hosting a conference, workshop, training, or certification focused on leadership skill development
  • Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society Student/Faculty/Staff induction fees

Personal/professional leadership development funding can be applied for at any time. This is a rolling admission.

  • Outdoor Recreation Management: Outdoor Legends professional networking event
  • Cycling Studies Minor: Student and faculty attendance to the League of American Bicyclists National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C.
  • Student Affairs: Orientation leader development training at Blue Ridge Learning Centers
  • Disc Golf and Outdoors Club: Lees-McRae College disc golf course creation
  • Sport Management: Equipment for student-led athletic broadcasting
  • Students Affairs: Women's Leadership Retreat
  • Outdoor Recreation Management: Student attendance to Outdoor Economy Conference in Asheville, NC
  • Admissions: Student and staff attendance to Collegiate Information and Visitor Association Conference
  • Student Affairs: Men's Leadership Retreat
  • Ski Industry Business and Instruction: Student attendance to Outdoor Retailer conference and ski areas in Denver, Colorado

Academic, knowledge-based learning will be at the center of leadership development at Lees-McRae.

Experiential Leadership

The Lees-McRae community will gain relevant leadership skills through experience-based, hands-on, authentic learning opportunities that contribute to skill development and values clarification.

The Lees-McRae Leader will be able to:

  • Knowledge: Describe multiple qualities of a successful leader and illustrate significant traits and behaviors of leaders within the Lees-McRae Leader’s specific industry/career field
  • Analysis: Critically analyze personal leadership style

Experiential Leadership

The Lees-McRae Leader will be able to:

  • Self-Awareness: Cultivate a sense of self-awareness through identifying leadership competencies, vision, and values
  • Reflection: Conduct a focused reflection on personal leadership, industry/career leadership, and a personal pathway to successful leadership development
