Frequently Asked Questions

  •

When can I start moving in?

New students can move in between 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on August 17. Returning students will move in on Saturday, August 18 or Sunday, August 19 between 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

  •

Can I move in early? What if my roommate is moving in before me?

Students may only move in on their specific arrival date and time, not with their roommate/suitemate if their roommate/suitemate has an earlier time. Our policy for early arrival requests is as follows:

    • Freshmen students arriving on Thursday, August 16 (one day before their normal move-in day) will be billed a $100 Early Arrival Fee.
    • Returning students arriving on Thursday, August 16 (two days before their normal move-in day) will be billed a $150 Early Arrival Fee.
    • Returning students arriving on Friday, August 17 (one day before their normal move-in day) will be billed a $100 Early Arrival Fee.

Early arrival requests must be made to Josh Gaisser and Denise Dyer at least 48 hours in advance. Due to summer camps and conferences in the residence halls and houses, staff trainings taking place, building renovations and updates, and general move-in preparation (painting the walls, cleaning all of the rooms, re-keying doors, and so forth), we are unable to accommodate any early arrival requests or requests to move in items before Thursday, August 16.

  •

What should I bring? Are there items I cannot move in with me?

We’re glad you asking! You can see the full list of items to bring and prohibited items here.

  •

How can I hang up items in my residence hall room?

Residence may only use painter’s tape, tacks, and pins to hang up items in their rooms. Command strips are not allowed.

  •

Can I take furniture out of my room?

You are responsible for each item of furniture in your residence hall room and it cannot be removed or stored outside of your room.

  •

    What’s the laundry situation?

Each residence hall has laundry facilities that are operated by pre-loaded laundry cards. Each freshman and new transfer student will be provided one of these cards upon their arrival to campus. Money can be loaded on to them through machines located in the Cannon Student Center.

  •

What if I don’t get along with my roommate?

Many individuals are nervous about not getting along with their roommate. Don’t worry, this is perfectly normal, and they may even feel the same way! It is important to communicate with your roommate early and often about your shared expectations for your room. You will complete a roommate agreement form early in the semester to help alleviate some of the stresses of living with someone on your own for the first time. If you need additional help about how to communicate with your roommate, ask your Resident Assistant (RA).

  •

    Can I bring my pet?

The pet application deadline for Fall 2018 has passed. If pet-friendly spaces are available, the application process will reopen at the end of the semester for the following Spring 2019 semester.

  •

    How do I get involved?

We encourage you to start by getting to know each and every one of your fellow students in your residence hall. You will see these individuals many times throughout the year, so you are encouraged to get to know each other early. You are highly encouraged to attend all welcome week events as well as residence life and campus life programs throughout the year, as they offer excellent opportunities to get to know each other and build community with your fellow peers. Keep an eye out for the Registered Student Organization Fair on August 24 from 3–5 p.m. for ways to get involved in student organizations across campus. Don’t see one that fits your interests? Contact Hannah Finkelstein, Director of Campus Life and Student Engagement, for information on how to create your own organization on campus!
