Lees-McRae College Cheerleaders are ambassadors for the university who are to reflect the academic, social and emotional values and expectations of the college. The LMC Cheerleading team is to provide positive support for athletic teams, serve at various college and community events, and participate in fundraising activities to support the program. In participating in these activities and events, the cheerleaders work to improve recognition and loyalty to Lees-McRae College, boost student morale and fan excitement, and develop and promote the Lees-McRae College Cheerleading squad.

Lees-McRae College Cheerleading exists primarily for game day and secondarily for competition. Game day includes basketball, soccer and any other DII sporting event where cheerleaders are requested. The cheerleaders work diligently to prepare for game performances, to encourage the college teams on and off the field, to lead the crowd in cheers and game traditions, and to enhance the overall game-day experience for fans. The opportunity to compete is a reward for the cheerleaders’ accomplishments in game-day performances, campus activities, and community events.

Structure and Involvement
For the 2019–20 season, Lees-McRae College will be comprised of one small coed team of about 20–28 members. Practices and workouts are held 3–4 times a week and are scheduled around the member’s academic schedules. The team performs for all men’s and women’s home basketball games and other athletic and community events. Each cheerleader is responsible for making the team requirements a priority, coming second to their academics. Cheerleaders are considered varsity athletes.
