Scholarly and Professional Achievements

I am interested in market-based solutions to the pressing global issues of environmental sustainability and poverty, particularly how gender-inclusive strategies support social and economic development. My professional background is both in international economic development and international business, working in microfinance, sustainable agriculture, and international coffee trade. Before coming to Lees-McRae, I was the General Manager and Director of Trade for a coffee import company and launched a brand makeover for its flagship sustainable brand, Cafe Femenino. Meaningful volunteering is important to me; I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer for three years in Nicaragua and since then have volunteered in board and executive leadership positions for a nonprofit that provides university scholarship in Nicaragua called Help Educate.

Personal Interests

With a foundation in philosophy and a work history that has allowed me to work and travel in 21 countries, I bring global ethical considerations into my courses. In my courses, you will be challenged to think critically and articulate your ideas effectively through writing and class discussion.

Growing up in Wyoming, I developed a love for outdoor adventuring, including rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking, ski mountaineering, and backpacking. When I was in college, I spent my summers working for the Forest Service doing wilderness trail construction and as a Wilderness Ranger. Come talk to me about your career goals, how to improve your essays, international current events, or about your latest outdoor adventures!
