Scholarly and Professional Achievements

Carter’s research focuses primarily on climbing industry trends including the management of routesetters. Carter is a certified Single Pitch Climbing Instructor through the Professional Climbing Instructors’ Association. In addition to his responsibilities at Lees-McRae, Carter guides for the North Carolina Outward Bound School and Rock Dimensions. He has been working in the guiding industry since 2013.

Carter’s medical certifications include: Wilderness First Responder; Adult/Child CPR, AED and Airway Management; and Epinephrine Administration.

Institutional Service and Responsibilities

Carter is the Lees-McRae Climbing Team coach.

Personal Interests

Carter is a sponsored by Evolv Sports and Friction Labs Chalk for his personal climbing endeavors. He uses his competition and climbing experience to coach the Lees McRae Climbing Team. Additionally, Carter enjoys staying fit through skiing, biking, and weight training. On rest days Carter can often be found drinking a strong cup of coffee, reading nonfiction, and playing fetch with his equally energetic rescue dog, Rugby.
