The Pre-Professional Biology program is dedicated to instilling the basic biological foundations required for any human or veterinary health-related field. Students major in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Professional Biology. The program provides comprehensive study of biological systems at the chemical, molecular, cellular, and organismal level. Laboratory and lecture classes will familiarize students with many of the molecular and biomedical technologies currently in use and investigate recent developments in the understanding of human disease.
For all Pre-Professional Biology majors, senior research projects, internships, and volunteer work provide opportunities for students put knowledge from the classroom into practical use in preparation for their chosen careers.
Unusual for a small liberal arts college, our faculty includes Dr. Claude Pyatte, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Students interested in Veterinary careers have opportunities for clinical and experiential learning at the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute, located on campus, and at area shelters and clinics.
"The Southern Appalachians are an outstanding natural laboratory for the Lees-McRae Wildlife Biology program. The Elk Valley Preserve and Field Station at Lees-McRae College, and the surrounding National Forests and wild and scenic rivers provide limitless opportunities for field work and natural history study."
