Management Concentration

Managers are found in almost every area in business. You can be a manager in a profit or non-profit enterprise. You can manage in a small environment or a large corporation. You can manage anything from a business venture, an arts venue or even a sports team. Good managers know how to lead and motivate others to achieve goals and objectives. This concentration focuses on how to become strong future managers and leaders. The emphasis is on practical and useful information, such as team-building skills, that can be immediately applied to coursework, internships and jobs.


Objectives

The goal is to have students learn useful and practical skills to use in a complex, diverse and ever-changing work environment. We focus on learning fundamental management skills such as planning and organizing, especially as it pertains to new technologies. We also provide leadership and controlling tools and experiences to handle challenges and issues that a student may face in their careers.

Our program emphasizes team and group work and utilizes real-world experiences whenever possible. We stress good communication skills through presentations and written documents and teach motivation and performance management to develop strong future managers that can handle both day-to-day as well as more complex issues in today’s work environment.

This concentration requires a minimum of 12 semester hours above the General Education Core and the required core curriculum for a Business Administration degree. The courses listed below are offered towards the Management Concentration.

The possibilities are endless for a career in Management. The ability to manage well and lead others can translate into almost any field and career track. Industries can include food and beverage, consumer products, services, pharmaceuticals, technology, entertainment, sports, music, clothing etc. Careers can be in retail, banking, insurance, manufacturing, restaurants, hotels, theater etc. There is virtually no area that does not need strong managers.

The coursework you will take as an undergraduate in Business Administration with a concentration in Management will prepare you for graduate school, if this is the path you choose.
