For many years, we have offered students musical theatre training within our Performing Arts Studies program, and now we offer a degree focusing on preparation of the traditional triple-threat performer – singer, actor and dancer. With the intensely individual attention our faculty provides, each student has the opportunity to grow and develop his/her talents in all three areas.
The degree is rooted in the liberal arts tradition of Lees-McRae College and provides training across all areas of the performing arts, while paying careful attention to the complete musical theatre performer and to the growth of the BFA student as a whole person. Auditioning assistance, a required performance internship and excellent performance experiences in our production season allow the BFA students to hone their individual talents and prepare for careers as professional entertainers.
Admission to the BFA degree is by audition only (freshman auditions are scheduled during the student’s second semester at LMC).
The BFA is a 73-hour degree that allows students to focus on performance skills, but it also allows them to explore all areas of performing arts training.
The mission of the Musical Theater program is to provide aspiring performers with a skills-based education in acting, vocal, and dance performance, as well as enhancing their training with a comprehensive framework that develops other intellectual, technical and management skills in order for graduates to compete successfully in the Musical Theater job market.
