Publication Guidelines
You must read and agree to the following guidelines in order to download and use one of the Lees-McRae College logos.
Once you have read through these guidelines, please click "I Agree" or "I Disagree" at the base of this page.
INTRODUCTION
These guidelines apply to the development and production of print materials in the name of Lees-McRae College. They have been established to maintain a consistent and positive image of the college in the public eye.
All textiles (clothing), brochures, ads, or other print/media materials (other than letters) need to have final proofreading and approval by the Communications Office.
Use of Logo, Seal, Paw Print, Tartan & Name
ONLY officially sanctioned copies of the logo, seal, paw print, tartan and name of Lees-McRae College can be used on ANY print media, clothing or website that is seen by people off-campus.
The Bobcat paw print is generally reserved for use by the Athletic Department and the Alumni Office.
The official colors of the college are Green and Gold. The numbers for the color matching system for our colors are – PMS 626 (green) and PMS 123 (gold). Please try to stay with these colors for the logo, name and paw print whenever possible. Most printers and other vendors should be able to match these colors.
LEES-MCRAE IDENTITY
The official Lees-McRae logo is a mark consisting of customized typography and color. The exact arrangement and proportion must not be altered in any way from the example shown unless otherwise outlined within this manual.
SCHOOL COLORS
Lees-McRae’s official school colors are gold and green. These colors are to be used on all materials both internal and external.
LOGO REPRODUCTION
The primary Lees-McRae logo colors are PANTONE 123, PANTONE 626, and Black. Consistent use of these colors builds brand recognition and must not be altered unless otherwise outlined in this manual.
When reproduced in color, the logo must use the PANTONE, CMYK, RGB, or Web color equivalents shown. The logo can also be reproduced in black and white reversed out of a dark color. Variations of all logos are provided on disc supplied.
MINIMUM SIZE
The logos may be enlarged or reduced in size as required. The minimum size of any mark is often determined by the method of reproduction or fabrication. The minimum size, using optimal reproduction methods, can be measured by the height of the “Crest” at 1/4”. Using less than optimal reproduction methods, the logo should only be used at a size which does not compromise quality and legibility.
CLEAR SPACE
For the logo to communicate effectively, it should not be crowded or overwhelmed by other elements. “Clear Space” refers to the area surrounding the mark that should be kept free from visual distraction. No graphic element or text of any kink should be placed within this clear space unless otherwise shown in this manual. The recommended clear space is equal to the height of the “L” in the Logo.
MARK INTEGRITY
The integrity of the Lees-McRae brand diminishes when the logos are incorrectly applied. Unauthorized versions and unacceptable usage of the logo place their legal protection at risk. Any variation or alteration, however small, is unacceptable.
DO NOT change the colors.
DO NOT change the color of separate components of the mark.
DO NOT outline any part of the mark.
DO NOT use a white border to outline the mark on dark backgrounds
DO NOT rearrange, eliminate, or use the components separately unless otherwise noted in this manual.
DO NOT distort the mark or scale it disproportionately.
DO NOT rotate mark.
DO NOT violate the clear space with text, images, or any other element.
DO NOT fill the mark with a photograph or any other pattern or texture.
PRIMARY TYPEFACES
The Meetings
Fritz typeface provides a modern appeal and helps to both make the
logo unique and emphasize the progressive qualities of the College.
It should be used
for larger type such as heads and subheads.
The Helvetica Neue Family of typefaces is a classic sans serif font that compliments Meetings Fritz. The Ultra Light weight of this font can be used for headlines, to obtain a contemporary special emphasis.
The Weiss Medium typeface should be used for body copy, as it has better readability while maintaining the flavor of the Meetings Fritz typeface.
ALTERNATE TYPEFACES
In cases where the primary typefaces are not available, the Arial and Times Roman typefaces may be substituted for Helvetica Neue and Meetings Fritz respectively. The use of these alternative typefaces should be limited to body copy in general business documents and the web. These alternative typefaces should not take the place of the primary typefaces when they are used to build the brand of Lees-McRae.
The Tartan
Approval for use of the Tartan design on articles of clothing, promotional products or print materials can be obtained from the Communications Office.
The Seal
Approval for use of the Seal on articles of
clothing, promotional products or print materials can be obtained from
the Communications Office.
The Paw
Athletics and the Alumni Office should primarily use the paw print. However, if another department or group of the college has written case for use of the paw it may be submitted to the PR/Marketing Office.
The paw print may be reproduced the following ways: On print materials the paw can be black, green, gold or white. On clothing the paw can be green or white on gold; gold or white on green; or green or gold on white.
When “Lees-McRae College,” “LMC Bobcats,” or “Bobcats” is used in conjunction with the paw, it should be in the same fonts as with the logo (see above). In print, the paw should be accompanied by the college name (word mark) in the first use whenever possible and then may stand alone, the same as with the logo (see above). On clothing, the paw may stand alone, but use “Lees-McRae College,” “LMC Bobcats,” or “Bobcats” if at all possible.
Letters and correspondence
All official letters should be on official and current LMC letterhead.
Envelopes should have the LMC logo accompanied by the return address whenever possible.
Margins for letters of correspondence should be as follows: Top: 2 inches, Bottom: 1 inch, Left: 1-1/4 inch, Right: 7/8 inch. Font used should be Weiss Medium with 11 point, flush left, and no hyphenation. Leading should be single space or space-and-a-half.
You may contact the Communications Office to obtain the correct font or with any questions regarding letters and correspondence.
Helpful Hints
Make sure several people in your department proofread your document. Even with several eyes on the document, there are still usually mistakes.
Try to maintain a consistent style throughout the whole document. For example, keep all headings in the same font and size.
When using graphics or photographs, try to use high quality images (300 dpi or above). Photoshop is a good software program to use to edit photographs – if you don’t have it, we have it in our office & would be happy to help you with the image or let you use the software.
If you feel lost or unsure about how to proceed during any step in your production process, please contact someone in our office & we will do what we can to help.
