Networks
Lees-McRae maintains a campus wide network for both employees and students of the college. This ubiquitous network encompasses the student connections, employee connections, wired & wireless connections and VPN access. Measures are in place to ensure the highest possible level of security for users connected to our network.
Wired Connections
The wired network is constructed from both fiber optic cabling, and category 5e wiring. These connections are the backbone of both the student and employee networks, and are continually inspected and upgraded to meet the demands of the college.
Wireless Connections
The campus wireless network was launched in the Fall of 2005, and has been a resounding success. This campus-wide network reaches to all corners of the campus, and even covers the neighboring eateries, Dunn's Deli, Banner Elk Cafe and the Lodge. The wireless network is setup to allow students to connect seamlessly to the Internet without any pre-configuration. Simply detect and connect to the "lmc" network using your wireless-enabled laptop or desktop computer. More information can be found in the Knowledge Base (use link on menu).
