Institutional Aid

Need-Based Institutional Grants

If your combined loans, campus employment and outside scholarships do not cover all of your financial need, you may receive an institutional need-based grant. The amount of the grant is based entirely on your family's financial situation; there is no predetermined minimum or maximum.

Institutional Scholarships

Institutional scholarships are awarded up to $9000 based on academic achievement, leadership, and financial need. These scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions and managed through the Office of Financial Aid. Students apply for these scholarships by completing an Application for Admission and supplying all requested documents. Recipients must maintain full-time status to keep their award. They are renewable for four years. To continue receiving institutional scholarships beyond the fourth academic year, students must submit an appeal in writing to the Office of Financial Aid for consideration.

Tuition Exchange

Eligibility for Tuition Exchange, is determined by the employing (home) institution. The employment status, years of service priority status or limitations for families seeking to send more than one family member, etc. are all established by the home institution. The eligibility guidelines can be obtained from the liaison officer at your school and are often published in benefit guides, the HR webpage and other personnel materials. The Financial Aid Office at Lees-McRae has provided an overview of the Tuition Exchange program and a Question and Answer sheet on the Tuition Exchange program in the links provided.

Lees-McRae College participates in three Tuition Exchange Programs. Information can be found through the following Tuition Exchange Programs:

The liaison officer for the Tuition Exchange Program at Lees-McRae College is Cathy Shell, Director of Financial Aid. If you have any questions regarding the TE program or need an application, please contact Cathy Shell, Director of Financial Aid at  828 898-8740   shell@lmc.edu

Elizabeth McRae Scholarship

Edgar Tufts, the founder of Lees-McRae College, named the college in honor of Mrs. Elizabeth McRae, a dedicated church worker, teacher, and home missionary from Maxton, North Carolina. This is the largest single scholarship awarded by Lees-McRae College, covering the full tuition for a full-time student. Two of these scholarships are available for freshmen entering the college in the Fall semester.

Recipients of the Elizabeth McRae Scholarship are chosen from all students invited to attend Scholar’s Day. After a series of interviews and testing the top two performers are selected as recipients. The scholarship covers tuition and is renewable for four years as long as the recipients maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Performance and Talent Awards

These awards are based on auditions or tryouts. They are competitive and are available from the Division of Performing Arts and the Athletic Department. Contact those areas for further information.
