Library Mission Statement

The mission of the James H. Carson Library of Lees-McRae College is to provide information resources and services to support and enhance the mission of the college.  To that end, the Library pursues the following goals:

I.        To select, organize, and provide access to information, regardless of location or format, to meet the evolving needs of the
       LMC curriculum and community.
II.     To develop and maintain a program of continual instruction and assistance in the identification, retrieval, and evaluation of
       information resources.
III.   To provide an environment and facilities conducive to both teaching and learning.
IV.  To develop and maintain and knowledgeable and service-oriented Library staff to implement the policies and procedures
       necessary to pursue these goals.

Reference Service

Reference librarians are available either at the Reference Desk (located on the main floor of the library) or on call during almost all regular library hours.  If you need assistance with your research, come to the Reference Desk or to the Library Office (located at the back of the main floor).  You may also submit your questions online with the library's Ask a Librarian service, or by phone at 828-898-8727.

Interlibrary Loan

LMC students, faculty, and staff may use the library's Interlibrary Loan service to borrow materials from other libraries.  Materials in the MCLN Consortium generally arrive within a few days of the time requested, and periodical articles available within MCLN usually arrive within 24 hours.  Materials ordered from outside the MCLN network may take longer to receive, but usually arrive within a couple of weeks.

Circulation

Most library materials may be checked out for a period of three weeks, with renewals allowed if no one else is waiting.  Reference materials and periodicals cannot be loaned to students. Faculty members may take these materials for short-term use in a specific class but the materials must be returned immediately following that class.  Audiovisual material may be loaned to students and faculty on a short-term (usually overnight) basis. Most "Reserve" materials may be used only within the library, although some may be checked out for overnight use, depending on the course instructor.  You must bring a valid LMC ID or Resident Library Card in order to check out library materials.
