Mexico 2008: May 12-
22, 2008

Today’s global
society demands citizens who comprehend the complexity of issues
facing a changing world.
While a liberal arts education prepares students to think
expansively and to make connections across disciplines, perhaps
nothing compliments this experience more than study and travel
abroad. A well organized
international study program immerses students in a culture different
from their own while also illuminating the interdependence of
scientific, historical, geographical, cultural, political, economic
and religious contexts.
These experiences produce citizens with a more nuanced and
sophisticated view of the world and a growing understanding of the
interrelationship of all people’s and nations.
This May,
Lees-McRae College is offering an intensive experiential study
course to Mexico. May 13th
– 22nd students and professors will travel to an
international study center run by a group of Benedictine nuns
committed to fostering global relationships.
Students and faculty reside in the international study center
in Cuernavaca and participate in concentrated coursework that
includes not only traditional lectures and classroom experiences,
but also field trips to historic and cultural sites, orphanages,
schools, and cottage industries sponsored by the nuns.
