Tibetan Buddhist Monks

In the Fall of 2005, four Tibetan Buddhist monks
visited and lived on the main campus of Lees-McRae College as part of the first
official Global Community Week.
Their visit sparked a series of dialogues that escalated into an annual event,
dealing with interfaith and cross-cultural programming.
Their visit included the creation of an authentic sand mandala (this
event drew over 1,000 visitors from across the high country) with ceremony,
classroom visits, a performance of the Yak dance and Snow Lion dance, and
multiple lectures on the political, religious and cultural aspects of Tibetan
Buddhism and their homeland.
