The mission of Outdoor Programs is to offer Lees-McRae College students opportunities for participation in outdoor educational experiences that will develop the mind, body, and soul of the student, while developing essential leadership and developmental skills vital to success in life.
This program will challenge students to be active participants in their environment and in their own lives.
"The outdoor adventures offered to students through the Backpacking and Rock Climbing Clubs connect them to each other as well as to the surrounding hiking trails and rock climbing areas in the beautiful mountains near the college. These connections form a lifelong desire to care for themselves, others, and the natural world."
-Dee Thomas Director of Outdoor Programs
All Lees-McRae College Rock Climbing, Hiking and Backpacking Programs taking place on National Forest Service Lands are authorized under a Special Use Permit by the Pisgua National Forest
The backcountry service learning experiences offer students the opportunity to perform trail maintenance work, improve rock climbing areas, and really give of themselves by donating their time and energy to help ensure a quality wilderness environment for future generations to enjoy.
