Four quick tips before applying to college (for free)!

This week is the College Foundation of North Carolina’s (CFNC) Free Application week! That’s right, completely free. Lees-McRae, along with many colleges in North Carolina will have an application available through CFNC for students to easily apply.

Submitting a college application is just the beginning of the process. Below are a few tips to help make your journey top notch.

Tip 1: Slow down and be thorough.

When you are up against application deadlines it can be easy to rush. Although some questions may only ask for basic information, you want to make sure you are completing every question to the best of your ability. Most applications can be saved and continued later on. Taking a break and returning to an application can sometimes give you a better perspective.

Tip 2: When in doubt, fill it out.

You may run into some questions that you are unsure about. When in doubt, fill it out! Remember that the questions are on the application for a reason. Don’t hurt your chances by skipping questions throughout the application.

Tip 3: Be authentic on your application.

It’s ok to have help from family or a school counselor but don’t let them take over the college process for you. This is the time for you to shine! Show off all your hard work, and just take it one step at a time. Colleges appreciate the authenticity of an application.

Tip 4: Ask questions, even if you don’t think you have any.

The Office of Admission, at any college, is there for you! Don’t be afraid to give your counselor a call or shoot them an email with any questions regarding the process. We are here to help you reach your college goals.
