Lees-McRae grabs a top spot on list of “15 Best Small Colleges for Animal Lovers”

Among the select few chosen to the list, Lees-McRae ranked No. 2 on Best Value Schools' recent list of “15 Best Small Colleges for Animal Lovers.”

“For people who grow up with pets, bidding farewell to those furry friends can sometimes be one of the hardest aspects about leaving for college,” according to the Best Value Schools website. “We’ve compiled our research to rank the 15 small colleges across the nation for animal lovers. That way students can enjoy their college experience with their pet.”

As part of the pet-friendly policy, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to bring their pets to campus. Students can apply for the pet-friendly housing program through the Student Development office.

Lees-McRae also has a Pet Council, which works to provide a safe environment for members of the college community as well as to protect, maintain and regulate pet ownership privileges.

For those with a passion for animals, but who don’t have a pet, the college also offers several animal-centric programs such as a minor and concentration in Wildlife Rehabilitation, and a major in Wildlife Biology as well as Pre-veterinary Medicine.
