Save the dates for these end-of-year events

The end of another academic year marks just the start of many exiting celebrations across campus. From the Senior Celebration Brunch to the Baccalaureate Service and Commencement, campus will be buzzing with activity. Take a look at this week’s events and be sure to mark your calendar!

Friday, May 4

Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society Induction
10 a.m., May School of Nursing and Health Sciences Room 140

Founded in 1922 by six nurses in Indianapolis, Indiana, STTI now has over 500 chapters with more than 135,000 active members across 90 countries. The mission of STTI is advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership and service.

Senior Celebration Brunch
11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., Alumni House

Hosted by the Lees-McRae Alumni Association, seniors are invited to the Alumni House to celebrate and receive their senior gift. Students will also have the chance to meet and be welcomed by members of the alumni board.

Commencement Practice
1:45 p.m., Tate Lawn

To ensure Saturday’s ceremony runs smoothly, students will participate in a practice run of the program.

Alpha Chi National College Honor Society Induction
4:30 p.m., Evans Auditorium

Founded in 1922, Alpha Chi was established to recognize outstanding academic achievement. With chapters at 300 college campuses across the United States, Alpha Chi invites students who are in the top ten percent of their junior and senior classes to join the honor society.

Baccalaureate Dinner
4:30–6:30 p.m., MacDonald Dining Hall

Leading into the Baccalaureate Service, graduates, families, faculty and staff will gather to celebrate. Tickets purchased for the dinner will be collected at the door. To accommodate guests and to eliminate lines, doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

Senior Class Photo
6:15–6:30 p.m., North Carolina Building steps

As part of a long-held tradition, following the Baccalaureate Dinner, seniors will gather for a class photo on the steps of the North Carolina building.

Baccalaureate Service
7 p.m., Hayes Auditorium

The Baccalaureate Service is a special tradition for graduates and their families. The event features a hooding ceremony as well as faculty and staff speakers chosen by the graduates.

May School of Nursing and Health Sciences Pinning Ceremony
8 p.m., Evans Auditorium with reception following in the May School of Nursing and Health Sciences

The third annual Pinning Ceremony is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the accomplishments of the students and their academic journey. The graduate nurses are pinned by a faculty member to celebrate their commitment to the profession of nursing. As one, all students and faculty will recite a pledge and commemorate Florence Nightingale’s history of helping wounded soldiers at night by candlelight.

Saturday, May 5

Commencement Ceremony
10 a.m., Tate Lawn

Commencement is an important milestone in the lives of our graduating students who have put in countless hours of hard work to earn their bachelor’s degree. The celebratory ceremony for both main campus and online students is scheduled to take place on Tate Lawn. Additional details can be found here.
