Parent and Family Weekend kicks off Thursday, Sept. 19

From Sept. 19–22, enjoy an entire weekend at Lees-McRae and in the High Country spending quality time with your student.

The four-day event features everything from a picnic and concert to informational sessions, a movie night, a guided hike, and even a way to give back to the High Country community.

The weekend will kick-off Thursday with the highly-anticipated, second annual Family Picnic and Concert. Starting at 5 p.m. in Tate-Evans Park, you and your family will enjoy live music performances on the main stage, food from High Country local businesses, inflatables, and family-friendly interactive novelties. Learn more about the Family Picnic and Concert here.

Friday will feature several academic and college-related sessions including a welcome address from President Lee King and a career success event in Evans Auditorium. The busy day will conclude with a movie night on Tate Lawn at 8 p.m.—so make sure you bring your lawn chairs and blankets.

Saturday is also packed with activities both you and your student will love. Begin the day with a yoga class followed-up by a pancake breakfast. From there, you can take a tour of the nearby Banner House Museum before giving back to the High Country with an afternoon service project with Habitat for Humanity. After all your hard work, enjoy a dessert reception in the King-Shivell Lounge in the Cannon Student Center.

Before you head home on Sunday, put on your hiking shoes and enjoy a guided hike of the area and the trails surrounding campus starting at the historic Tufts Tower. The weekend also offers the opportunity to attend a local religious service on Sunday morning.
