Sexual Conflict: An Evolutionary Arms Race

April 20, 2017

05:30 PM - 06:30 PM

Evans Auditorium

Sexual conflict exists when males and females have different reproductive goals from an evolutionary perspective. In nature, males often demonstrate a preference for mating with as many partners as possible. On the other hand, females have relatively fewer opportunities to mate and prefer males with the best traits. This conflict has led to exaggerated characteristics in some species like the peacock's tail and odd mating rituals in other species. This presentation will focus on why sexual conflict exists and some of the more interesting examples of sexual conflict. Presented by Dr. Collins.
