Scholarly and Professional Achievements
I use ethnography and critical rhetoric to study the intersection of identity. history, and place. My past research includes instructional communication, organizational communication, and health communication. My work has been featured publications such as The International Handbook of Organizational Autoethnography, The Journal for the History of Rhetoric, The Southern Communication Journal, The Journal of Autoethnography, and others. My research earned the Rose B. Johnson Article of the Year award by the Southern States Communication Association, Outstanding PhD Research Award by the University of Memphis College of Arts & Sciences, Ethnographic Book Chapter of the Year Award by the National Communication Association, and the Top Ethnography Paper by the Southern States Communication Association. I also serve as a reviewer for the Journal of Autoethnography (University of California Press) and am actively involved in the Southern States Communication Association and the National Communication Association.
Institutional Service and Responsibilities
I serve on numerous college committees including the Stephenson Center for Appalachian & Comparative Highland Studies committee, the general education committee, the honors committee, the AI committee, and the speaker selection committee. I serve as the faculty advisor for the Hooked on Crochet Club.
