Scholarly and Professional Achievements

I was an active duty police officer for over 26 years. I started my career in Atlantic Beach, NC in 1984. I attained the rank of Lieutenant and was in charge of the patrol division. I transferred to the Gaston County Police Department in 1993. There I have completed tours in Patrol, Crime Prevention, Training and DARE. I was promoted to Sergeant in 1999, as served as a Patrol Sergeant and Criminal Investigation Sergeant. I was promoted again in 2003 to the rank of Captain, where I completed assignments in the Patrol and Criminal Investigation Unit.

I received my BS in Psychology from the Southeast Missouri State University in 1984 and my Masters of Science in Criminal Justice from University of Cincinnati in 2004. I am a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 218, and the NC Justice Academy Management Development Program Class 15. I also hold specialized instructor certificates from the NC Training and Standard in Firearms, Physical Fitness and Driving.
