Family Weekend

September 15–17, 2023

Parents and families, this weekend is for you! Join us on campus for some fun-filled quality time with your student. Spend the weekend exploring Banner Elk and familiarizing yourself with your student's home away from home!

The cost to attend is $30 per family.

3–3:30 p.m. Welcome
Evans Auditorium

We are thrilled to have you back on campus. Let us officially welcome you and kick off the festivities. 
3:30–4:30 p.m. Wildlife Ambassador Presentation
Evans Auditorium

Hear from students in the Wildlife Rehabilitation Program while learning about our ambassador animals that live at the May Wildlife Center.  
4:30 p.m. Mock Crime Scene with Criminal Justice

Think you can solve the case? Join our Criminal Justice program for a mock crime scene investigation. Prizes will be available to the family that solves the case first! 
4:30 p.m. Esports Showcase (drop-in)
Esports Room in Chaffee Center

Learn more about our Esports team and what happens during an Esports tournament.  
5 p.m. Special Collections Showcase
Shelton Learning Commons

The Shelton Learning Commons will have special items from the Lees-McRae College archives on display. Stop in to learn more and view these historic items.

Be our guest for dinner in The Summit.

Energize your morning with this classic dance fitness class. 
10 a.m.–Noon Hike Upper Creek Falls
Upper Creek Falls

Special Note: This hike is a 1.5 mile loop that is considered moderately challenging. The beginning of the trail is downhill and requires crossing a river, while the end of the trail loop is uphill with around a 426 foot elevation gain. This trail showcases stunning waterfalls, huge boulders, and beautiful views. Limited transportation will be available.
10:30 a.m.–2 p.m. Family Brunch

Treat yourself to the most important meal of the day in The Summit. 
11 a.m.–1 p.m. Fun at Wildcat Lake
Wildcat Lake

Enjoy beach volleyball, spikeball, corn hole, and the beautiful scenery of Wildcat Lake.  
2 p.m. Women's Soccer vs. UNC Pembroke
Tate Field

Cheer on our Bobcats as they take on UNC Pembroke! 
2–4 p.m. Taste of Banner Elk Food Tour
Departs from Cannon Student Center

Get a taste of Banner Elk’s most popular restaurants including LP on Main, Banner Elk Café, Sorrentos, and Bayou Smokehouse and Grill on this delicious walking food tour. Capacity limit: 30 people. 
6–7 p.m. Alpine Coaster
Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster
($20 per person for the 3-ride bundle—nearly 40% off the door price)

Experience the thrill of North Carolina's first alpine coaster! The track's length of 3,160 feet includes three circular loops (you do not go upside down), a series of waves, and several twists and turns for plenty of excitement. Capacity Limit: 50 people
