Dr. Robert Turpin to publish with Johns Hopkins University Press

Assistant Professor of History Dr. Robert Turpin has signed a contract to publish his first monograph, First Taste of Freedom: The Bicycle and American Culture, with Johns Hopkins University Press. His publication will trace the bicycle’s role as a status symbol in the 1890’s to a child’s toy by the 1950s and its evolution from a means of demonstrating health and wealth to a tool used temporarily during childhood.

The monograph is tentatively scheduled for release in 2017.
