Judicial Process Class Hosts Area Attorneys for Mock Trial

November 23, 2015
On November 16, Lees-McRae's Judicial Process class experienced a common criminal trial first hand. Instructor Howard Donovan, who is also a defense attorney, Avery County Assistant District Attorney Penn Dameron and local attorney Wiliam B. Cocke, Jr. lead the class through the exercise. During the trial, students acted as witnesses, defendants, jurors and other key members of the case. The purpose of the trial was to encourage students to put their knowledge of legal information, trial procedures and evidentiary and constitutional concepts into practice.

The Criminal Justice program at Lees-McRae College utilizes the social science perspective to study the nature and causes of crime and provide a comprehensive understanding of the United States criminal justice system. Students who major in Criminal Justice benefit from a unique, holistic learning environment that challenges the student to view crime, law and social problems in sociological and psychological context.
