Lees-McRae attends HOSA conference, announces scholarship
By Hayden Moses ’16
Lees-McRae College representatives attended the North Carolina Health Occupations Students of America (NCHOSA) conference to interact with more than 2,400 prospective students and educators by raising awareness about nursing and health science opportunities at Lees-McRae College. In addition to recruiting, Lees-McRae attended as a diamond sponsor, the only institution of higher education to make such a presence at the conference. The conference was held in Greensboro, N.C. in late March.
Nicole Chappell, instructor of nursing and health sciences, commented, “It was exciting to be surrounded by such a large group of young individuals so passionate about the allied health fields. I feel certain Lees-McRae will have the pleasure of teaching some of these up and coming nurses and pre-med students in the near future.”
The team informed prospective students about the Lees-McRae College HOSA Scholarship, an annual, renewable $2,000 scholarship awarded to one high school senior who is an active member of HOSA and plans to work toward a degree in nursing or applied health at Lees-McRae. The winner must maintain an average GPA of 3.25 or higher.
