Cannon Charitable Trust gifts $500,000 to update Bowman Building laboratories

July 26, 2017

Two laboratories within the Bowman Building will receive major renovations because of a $500,000 donation from the Cannon Charitable Trust.

Renovations will reconfigure and upfit the laboratories to meet the needs of 21st century students, and will positively affect Lees-McRae programs in biology, biomedical sciences, pre-veterinary medicine, wildlife biology and many more.

Laboratories will receive new workbench surfaces, seating, fume hoods, ceilings, flooring as well as additional updated equipment and facility renovations.

The donation is part of a larger campus-wide fundraising campaign that began efforts in fall 2016.

“We are grateful for the continued support of the Cannon Charitable Trust,” Lees-McRae President, Dr. Barry M. Buxton, said. “Their current and past help has enabled our college to flourish and expand. The improvements in these labs will serve generations of students to come.”

Established by Charles A. Cannon in 1943, the Cannon Charitable Trust is one of three charitable trusts as part of the Cannon Charitable Interests Foundation.

Focusing predominantly on organizations in North Carolina, Cannon Charitable Trusts focus on cultivating institutions involved in education, health care, faith and welfare.
