Ready? Set. Go! The Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge begins on Monday, Sept. 18

September 15, 2017

Get ready, because starting Monday, Sept. 18, Lees-McRae College Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge participants can begin logging their activities in the Campus Challenge app.

From Sept. 18 until Oct. 15, Lees-McRae students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community can participate in the fourth annual Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge–a nation-wide event created by Outdoor Nation, a coalition of public, private and not-for-profit partners dedicated to getting people active and pursuing a healthy lifestyle. The Challenge is sponsored by REI, The North Face, Hydro Flask and ENO.

This year will mark the first time the college will compete for a title in the Challenge. Lees-McRae will also join as one of the smallest division I participants, heading up against North Carolina schools such as UNC Asheville, UNC Charlotte, NC State University and East Carolina University among several others.

Once participants have downloaded the free application and joined the Lees-McRae team, points can be logged and earned for almost anything including running, bicycling, hiking, walking, bird-watching, yoga, slacklining and much more.

Points can also be earned for developing events and classes to help others get active.

On the same day as the official opening of the competition on Sept. 18, Lees-McRae will host an Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge “kick-off” event on campus to further introduce students to the competition and to begin collecting points by participating in slacklining, cornhole, KanJam, frisbee and more.

In addition to simply being a part of the Challenge, points earned will qualify participants for daily raffles, free gear and a chance at the ultimate title: National Outdoor Champion.

Outdoor Nation, powered by the Outdoor Nation Foundation, is committed to increasing and expanding youth participation through entertainment, education, engagement and action–especially among urban communities and communities of color–resulting in a healthier, more active generation, according to the Outdoor Nation website.
