Learning more about specific academic programs at any college or university has never been more important than it is today. At Lees-McRae College, we are hosting a series of Virtual Enhanced Visits designed to give you an up-close and personal look into some of our popular and innovative majors.

During enhanced visits, you'll meet directly with faculty, current students, and alumni via Zoom to discuss the programs and their experiences at Lees-McRae. This is your opportunity to learn more about Lees-McRae and to discover why you should join us to further your education in a number of exciting fields. We offer both main campus and online degree-completion options in certain areas of study.

Business and Management Programs

Would you like a college degree that prepares you for just about any career? If so, then earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration. It can open the doors to jobs in management, sales, marketing, finance, human resources, budgeting, and insurance. The growth rates for business administration jobs are forecast to be up to 25 percent through 2026.

The State of North Carolina has a $28 billion tourism industry, a close second only to Colorado. Our Outdoor Recreation Management degree will prepare you for a wide variety of new career areas that include Ski Industry Business and Wilderness Medicine. Whether rock climbing at the Hidden Boulders on campus, obtaining your Leave No Trace trainer certification, or spending your summer as an intern at a National Park, you will have an exciting and engaged experience like no other.

Sport management students will take exciting courses such as Sport Communication, Sport Law, Sport Leadership, Sport Finance, NCAA Compliance, Athletic Revenue and Fundraising, and Sport Event and Venue Management. This prepares them for internships and careers with recreation departments, athletic departments, and sport franchises like the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, NFL’s Carolina Panthers, and NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.

Nursing Programs

Registered nurses care for patients and educate the public about health conditions. Both our pre-licensure nursing and bachelor’s degree-completion programs enable graduates to become registered nurses or build on current knowledge and skills while opening doors to opportunities in management and leadership positions in the medical field.

Graduates are prepared for board certification or continued education in graduate schools. The average salary for an RN with a bachelor’s degree, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), is over $72,000 annually. This represents a significant pay increase over RNs who don’t have a bachelor's degree. Some of the highest paying positions for registered nurses who earn their BSN include Nurse Administrators, Nurse Case Managers, Nurse Informaticists, Paramedic Nurses, and Pharmaceutical RNs.

Science Programs

With our focus on experiential learning, Lees-McRae provides an outstanding educational experience for students seeking a future in the sciences. Learn about our May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, our new biology labs, and the 70-acre Elk Valley Preserve and Field Station. You will have the chance to meet our faculty, all of whom have extensive field and research experience in these exciting fields, and to hear about numerous success stories of our graduates.

Some of the innovative courses and topics you will study at Lees-McRae include mammology, ornithology, animal behavior, herpetology, advanced clinical rehabilitation, genetics, microbiology, and biochemistry. We also prepare our students for professional schools of medicine and veterinary medicine. Recent graduates of our programs have gone on to advanced studies at schools such as North Carolina State University, Auburn University, University of Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. They have also gone on to exciting careers in hospitals and research positions, in addition to careers as wildlife biologists, animal keepers, environmental protection specialists, and aquarium agriculturists.
